Light My Solstice Fire
Summer is officially here with Summer Solstice on June 21 2011 at 1:16p EDT
It is the start of summer in the northern hemisphere and winter in southern hemisphere. It’s also the longest day of sunlight for the Northern Hemisphere and the shortest day south of the equator.
This is a day of the sun, and the earth’s “circle of illumination” passes from the Arctic Circle on the far side of earth to Antarctic Circle on the near side. This day is of light, as the equator will get 12 hours of daylight. There’s 24 hours of daylight at the North Pole, and 24 hours of darkness at the South Pole on this day.
Celebrate the Light of Magnificent Surya the Sun!
Heart of Fire
The Heart is the “seat” and the stability of the mind. The highest expression of the Heart is love, warmth, enthusiasm, and conscious awareness.
Yoga provides renewal and rejuvenation to the body, and a meditative and mindful practice brings awareness and sharpens insight.
Quieting the body and mind with space to explore physical, emotional and spiritual transformation is a deeply healing personal experience.
In your yoga practice, try Restorative poses like Balasana – child’s pose, Supta Baddha Konasana – supine bound angle, Simple Supported Twist and Savasana.
In summer a lighter diet feels good, and it’s perfect time for cooling Yin foods. Cool foods clear heat, reduce toxins, and generate fluids. Go outside, exercise and drink lots of clean, pure water. Add mindful yoga and meditation to keep you happy and healthy. Meditate on clarity, compassion and nourishment to cool the Fire of Summer! |
