Tibetan Buddhists compare gurus to fire: stay too far away, and you don’t get warm; venture too close, and you can be burned. Like alll great teachers, the best gurus guide their students to the point where they(the “guru”) are no longer needed.
A good teacher stays one step ahead of his students so that he remembers what it takes to learn what he is teaching.
